An Exclusive Interview With True Beatz

The Cincinnati, Ohio born producer Jamon ” TrueBeatz “ Turner began his career at a very young age. His passion for music led him into the world of hip-hop at  the age of 8 . He was heavily influenced by raw hip-hop of the 90’s. Since being introduced to hip-hop, Jamon dreamed of become a super producer. In his quest to reach the top , TrueBeatz started his campaign in 2004 where he began making beats on Sony PlayStation video games ” Music Maker “ & ” Ejay Clubworld “. With a better understanding of the process in making beats, ” TrueBeatz “ felt confident enough to transpire his ability to beat making software , ” Fruity Loops” . Now with years under his belt and confidence , ” TrueBeatz “ produces for local rising artist as well as artist from all over the country.

Q:When you decide it’s time to make a new record, is that more exciting or stressful?

Ans: Its more exciting, I music is my passion.

Q:  How do you shut things out?

Ans: I always hear music playing in my head.

Q: How easily do songs tend to come to you?

Ans : Very easily

Q: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?

Ans: If you struggling hard, Then you got to grinder.

Q: What is you favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car?

Ans: I like something smooth, Maybe some old R.Kelly

Q: For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words?

Ans: 90’s style, smoothness, catchy melodies, thumping basslines, drums with effects.

Q: You write all of your own music; where do you draw inspiration from

 Just Blaze, Timberland and Dr. Dre.  And Kanye West. Them my favorite producers.

when you write songs and what’s your favorite part about the proccess?

ANS: I love building around the chorus/hook

Q: At what age did you start singing?

ANS: LOL not really a singer but I start producing back in 2004.

Q:Who are your inspirations?

Ans: Jay-z, Nas, R.Kelly.

Q: If you could perform with anyone, in the future, who would it have to be?

Ans: Dr. Dre

Q:What is your favorite song to sing live?

Ans: If I were a singer, probably “Cry for you” by Jodeci.

Q:Do you have any events coming up or recording going on right now?

Ans: Yes, Working on a few Instrumentals for TV/Films.

Q:Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to sing as a career or just advice about careers in general?

Ans : Yes, Believe in yourself and never give up on what you have a strong passion for.

Q: If you had a soundtrack to your life what song/songs would have to be on it?

Ans : T.i “I still luv you”, Tupac “Life goes on” Dr. Dre “Lil” ghetto boy.

Q:How does the conversation go when someone pitches the performance to you?

Ans: It goes well, Always good to be creative.

Q:When and why did you start playing?

ANS: I pick up a guitar like a few years ago. I just love how the guitar sounded. Especially when someone playing the hell out it.

Q:  Which instruments do you play?

Ans: The guitar and keyboard.

Q: What was the first tune(s) you learned?

Ans: Bobby Brown’s ‘Dont be cruel”

Q: Is your family musical?

Ans: ummmmm kinda.

Q:  Describe your family member’s musical interests and abilities.

Ans: My aunts love (Patrisha Murray and Karen Murray) love to dance to music rather it’s new or oldschool. My daughter Janiya plays the trumpet and the violin.

Q:  Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?

Ans: Tupac, He kept it real and I grew up listening to his music.

Q:  Which famous musicians have you learned from?

Ans: I love alot from Beanie Sigel, Nas, Jay-z, Tupac. (Especially Tupac) and Bone Thugs. They rap about what goes on and how to survive in the hood.

Q:  Who was your first teacher? Other teachers?

Ans: Mrs Wiggins

Q:  Describe your first instrument. Other instruments.

Ans: A beginner Les Paul guitar and a Casio keyboard that my momma (Beverly Brown) brought me.

Q:  What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town?

Ans: Making beats with my cousins off a playstation (Music maker) from my grandma house in Cincinnati Ohio.

Q:  Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones?

Ans: Old, Ice-T “Power” Eazy E “We want Eazy” Dr. Dre “The Chronic” And Bobby Brown “Dont be cruel” tapes.

Q:  Who are your favorite musicians? Groups? CD’s?

Ans: Bone Thugs and Harmony” Eternal 1999” Wu-Tang Clan”

Q: Have you been in competitions? Fleadh’s? Any prizes?

Ans: No

Q:  Do you perform in public? Describe those occasions? Concerts, radio, TV?

Ans: No

Q:  Do you play for dances? Step-dancers? Describe the differences.

Ans: No

Q:  How do you handle mistakes during a performance?

Ans: Never been in the situations before.

Q:  Do you get nervous before a performance or a competition?

Ans: I’m pretty sure I will.

Q:  What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?

Ans: I guess i’ll tell to them to pace their self

Q:  Do you attend sessions? What makes a good session?

Ans: No.

Q:  How often and for how long do you practice?

Ans: Almost everyday on FL Studio 12.

Q: What do you practice – exercises, new tunes, hard tunes, etc.?

Ans: New tunes, Trying to be more creative learning new chords and sounds.

Q: Do you teach music?

Ans: No.

Q:  How do you balance your music with other obligations – mate, children, job?

Ans: Yes I do. It’s very hard to do sometimes. But Kids have to come first, Gotta give the kids their time and to help out with homework. I work a part time job just to pay bills and to invest in my music.
