Dr. Ally K Talks About Her New Release Up,Up & Away

Dr Ally K is a dynamic new artist who writes songs with messages and producers her songs in an urban/pop style, ranging from EDM to Hip Hop. LATEST NEWS – Dr Ally K releases Raptors’ anthem “We The North” single. “We The North” was written by Dr Ally K and produced by Peter Linseman and Carla Sacco at Music Mentor Productions. Ally has surpassed 200,000 streams on Spotify, only 3 months after the release of her first single “The Best (Mean Girl)” off of her 6 song EP “Up Up & Away”.

Who inspired you to make music?

 I have been singing since I was a child.but the most inspiring moment was when my boyfriend committed suicide when I was a teenager. The original song that came from that is called Darkest Days and was very therapeutic through that dark period. I wrote it with my producer/therapist and it made the cut for the upcoming fall album.

Tell us about your recent release Up,Up & Away ?

UUAA is a song initiated by my brother Jess Koffman with co-writer Peter Linseman and I and it inspired Jess to lead a more spiritual existence in Thailand. This song is about escaping the surface/commercial life that we all need a break from now and then.

What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Some of this question was just answered and celebrate The Inside and Never also come from a spiritual place with a message. The song The Best (mean girl) is about a young girl struggling with her identity and deals with it by putting on a mean front. My Cue is this song about angst and yearning for someone that is unavailable. Baby is a light pop/EDM song and Body is this song about a sensual animal attraction to a sexy woman.

What do you enjoy most about being a musician? What do you hate most?

As mentioned previously, music is like therapy and love the fact that I can create something out of nothing and at the same time speak my mind. The thing I hate the most, is that it feels like we’re getting further away from the music itself because everything is now Associated and attached to visuals. It wasn’t that long ago where you just listened to music.

‘If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?’

Continuing with the previous questions’ statement, I would like to see music SPEAK louder than the visuals/hype and I would level the playing ground so it wasn’t so major label oriented.
