The idea for MeNo GrinGo first came about in 2004 when Brent Neilson from New Zealand was living in Bogota, Colombia with his first wife who was from Colombia.

As Brent recalls the story fondly below:

“One day when I was walking down a street by my apartment, a man who looked around 50 years old and looked like he was drunk was across the street and yelling at me in Spanish. As I had limited knowledge of Spanish, I asked my first wife what the man was saying. She said that he is calling you a Gringo and some other expletives and to go home. On hearing that I yelled back ‘Me No Gringo’ and from that day the idea of MeNo GrinGo was born. MeNo GrinGo to me means I am who I am “
