Director and Cinematographer Ajijul Hasan Surzo Continues To Showcase His Incredible Talent Around the World

Ajijul Hasan Surzo has nearly eight years of experience as a director and cinematographer in the motion picture industry. His areas of competence are visual narrative, end-to-end production management, and deftly steering creative teams. He is well known for his clear vision, meticulous attention to detail, and capacity to improve the caliber of production, even in the face of pressing deadlines.

 

Currently, Surzo serves as the Manager of the Media Department at Hair Queen LA and OYO TV, a role that allows him to showcase his leadership and strategic skills. He is responsible for creating and managing various digital content and strategies for this Hollywood-based fashion company. His duties include overseeing all digital content creation, production, editing, and distribution, ensuring consistent and quality media output through interdepartmental coordination.

Ajijul started freelancing as a director and cinematographer in film in August 2017 but began his career as an assistant director in Bangladeshi TV media. Over the years, Ajijul has directed and shot numerous award-winning shorts and documentaries. He has collaborated closely with writers, producers, and crew members to bring creative ideas into reality. His oversight spans from the pre-production stage through post-production to delivery, thus showing his diverse skill set.

 

Before his current role, Ajijul also worked as a production assistant at Universal Studios Hollywood. This position allowed Ajijul to hone skills in time management, leadership, and teamwork abilities while ensuring set safety and adhering to protocols related to production. This furthered his capability in handling the dynamic nature of film production and made him quick on his feet.

 

Surzo’s versatility and attention to visual details are further demonstrated by his experience as a Colorist at C&I Studios from May 2022 to February 2024. In this role, he led color correction and grading for various projects, working closely with the director to achieve each project’s desired mood and tone. His meticulous attention to visual consistency throughout the project is a testament to his dedication to the craft.

 

Ajijul has collected several recognitions for his works. He won Best Film at Films on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and the I-Lead-O-Scope Film Festival. He was also recognized as Best Junk Editor at XavComm 2019, held at St. Xaviers University, and received honorable mentions at the Atlanta Black Pride Film Festival. 

 

His films have been finalists at the International Children Film Festival, Dhaka 2017, and Frames Film Festival. He was the director of photography of the film “D,” which was selected and screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival. At the Dadashaheb Phalke International Film Festival, he was selected twice in the Best Documentary and Humanity Ambassador category.

 

He has extensive experience complemented by his education. Ajijul attended a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production from Mount Saint Mary’s University, Los Angeles, and anticipated to graduate in 2026. He has finished advanced cinematography classes at Los Angeles City College and has had certifications in Camera Operation, Camera Assistance, Grip, and Electric. He has also completed a Davinci Resolve advanced color grading and post-production certification course.

 

Ajijul also attended the New York Film Academy, Los Angeles, in screenwriting and direction and received an undergraduate degree in Media Science with a concentration in filmmaking from West Bengal University of Technology, India.

 

Combining hands-on experience with proper education, Ajijul develops continuously beyond filmmaking. His incredible dedication to his work and leading role as an innovator in the film industry have gotten him amongt he rising talents.
