MARIAH CAREY AND BEYONCE’ CHOREOGRAPHER ANTHONY BURRELL
The fabulous and innovative Dancer/Choreographer and Creative Director, Anthony Burrell was in town recently and he sat down with Australian Entertainment Reporter Amber Bollard to discuss his latest achievements and what he has coming up in his most interesting career.
Anthony Burrell has been a major player in the world of dance in the last few years. his most recent position was as Creative Director for Mariah Carey. He worked with her and her team for some time and was involved in Mariah’s World, her Christmas appearances, the Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour and Mariah’s New Year’s Eve Show that brought in 2017. He has also worked with Beyonce, Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Kesha, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, Brandy and countless other celebrities.
Anthony initially became interested in dance when he witnessed the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater. He was amazed, he told Amber, that a brown man was dancing ballet. Of course, after that, Anthony jumped in and immersed himself in dance and formed his own unique type of dance, which blended ballet with commercial dance styles. He went on to appear on Broadway in a Twyla Tharp musical and won numerous awards including the MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography for Beyonce’s Sorry.
Anthony is incredibly busy these days. He has been on TV, notably, Raising Asia, Abby Ultimate Dance Competition, So You Think You Can Dance, The Oprah Winfrey Show and Good Morning America to name just a few. He is looking for just the right building in Atlanta so he can open a performing arts school and the Anthony Burrell Center for Dance in 2017.
