Make room, Rihanna! It’s Gioya Tuma-Waku
They say knowing what you want out of life is half the battle.
Gioya knew at age 4 that she was a performer. First in ballet, then as an actor at 10 in Aladdin, then as an actor with a degree in her hand, then on stage and screen. Building a successful career in Hollywood is like building a home—one brick at a time. The career, like the house, doesn’t magically appear one day. It happens with a lot of hard work, talent, and fortitude. Sometimes you just see and feel that spark of talent, that X factor in a performer. They have something that leaps off the screen, and, the right role, the right movie, can be career-changing if not life-changing. Each role that Gioya takes on changes her life and her career, propelling her that much farther along in her career.
As a writer and producer herself, Gioya hopes to work with Shonda Rhimes and Ava DuVarney in the future, and she has a lot of talent and drive to bring to the table. From supporting roles like the one she played in the feature film Shine Bright, to lead roles like she played in Bloggers, 3 Sides, and Intruder, her ability to disappear into a role is instantly evident. Range is an envied quality to have, and not all actors have it. To say that Gioya is the next Halle Berry would not be stretching it. It takes great writing and a great director to channel such talent, and of course the right opportunity.
She isn’t one to sit back and wait for opportunity to knock. She actively goes after her roles, and develops each character to its fullest. Her talents will be showcased in the upcoming series The Palms, Dreamchas3rz, and Up the Ladder.
Believe in yourself. No matter what—Gioya Tuma-Waku.
