It’s Time To Know More About Alex Blue

Bio: Well, I grew up in a small state where ambition was scarce. I’ve always been told by my mom to strive for what I believe in no matter how much it seems like I won’t make it. I started rapping in middle-school just for fun but then began to get serious in high-school when my friends around me started giving me positive feedback. Over the years in high-school there would be random kids that would make fun of me forrapping, saying I was “too lame to be a rapper” and that I “sounded wack”, but this did not deter me from my vision.

I have always loved 80s rock and pop as well as 1990s and 2000’s hip hop. I try to incorporate these two genres into my music through beat and lyric references which is very present in my current mixtape “Retro Blue”. Currently after 8 years of practice with songwriting, I am still writing and becoming the best artist I can be and this year I feel like I have created the best mixtape I have ever created and have gotten the best feedback I have ever received.

Hopefully one day the world will see my vision as I had seen it back in high-school and will love the story I tell as I continue on my journey to success.

Q:When you decide it’s time to make a new record, is that more exciting or stressful?

Ans: I would have to say it’s a bit of both. I love to come up with new projects and it is very exciting to brainstorm them and write them down. However, having to come up with the right sound for the project and recording songs to make them sound the way I first envisioned them can be stressful at times. Sometimes the songs just flow out and I can have them written and recorded in a few hours. On the other hand, songs that do not sound “right” to me can take days or even weeks to get just right. Every project I create, I write about 15-20 songs but, only about 8-10 make the cut.

Q: What is you favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car?

ANs: Definitely M.Y.N.D. is my new favorite. My producer Naidacra and I worked hard on that song and it’s absolutely turned out great!

Q: For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words?

Ans: Retro, Lyrical, Fun, Charismatic, and Smooth.

Q:Who are your inspirations?

Ans: Definitely Eminem and The Weeknd.

Q:Do you have any events coming up or recording going on right now?

Ans: As of right now, I am only working on a few features with other artists including my producer Naidacra, Stevie Rogers, Wasaki, and K. Soul.

Although, I am always looking for more features to work with to keep connecting with different types of artists!

Q:Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to sing as a career or just advice about careers in general?

Ans : Be yourself. I started out being myself and nobody liked it haha. But I didn’t change for them, I just got better through the constructive criticism from my friends and family and I built the sound that I have today off of that. Now I have loyal fans that love my work and the positive feedback i receive from them is what drives me to keep going.

Q:How does the conversation go when someone pitches the performance to you?

Ans: Very fun actually but in short terms the phone calls usually consist of the rundown of the specifics and list of cues for the performance. As well as times and set lists I need to submit to prior to the event.

Q:When and why did you start playing?

ANS: I started back in 8th grade just fooling around but I later started recording myself to instrumentals off of youtube and posting them online them giving out flyers at school. I soon later performed at a talent show for the school and the rush of being on stage made me feel amazing. It was when I had gotten 2nd place out of 30 competitors that I felt like I could get even better and make something out of my music.

Q: Do you get nervous before a performance or a competition?

Ans: I honestly used to be a so nervous when it came to releasing a song and even more nervous when performing. What I did to overcome this was to not care about whether or not if it was “good enough”. I liked it and that’s all that mattered. Music is about expression so I did just that. As for performing, I have had a few bad performances not gonna lie. I was so worried about messing up that I would mess up. But once I learned that nobody really even notices when you mess up half the time, it alleviated that feeling of stage fright. So I definitely learned from those bad experiences I eventually started to look at it as a fun experience. Now I love performing and the rush on stage feels great.

Q: How do you balance your music with other obligations – mate, children, job?

Ans: I honestly am a college student at Delaware Tech. I am balancing part time school and a part time job as well as trying to maintain my time for music. I balance them by setting days aside for music. I have off two days a week from work and school which is on the weekend. So my saturdays and sundays consist of music and collaborations. During the week however is all work and studying.
